Instruments for ultrasonic welding with central port
The instrument is made in the form of cylinder-shaped stem with conical working part and open-ended axial port guiding the welded wire to the working area.
Welding of the short-cut wire is realized by its press with an instrument to the welding surface when additional power is simultaneously supplied to the zone of welding by means of heating (thermocompression welding), ultrasound (ultrasonic welding) or both of them (thermosonic welding). The first one is realized with “the bead, end-to-end”, the second one – “overlapped”. Working part material of the instruments of KTR2 type is ruby; of KU3, KT5 types – ruby, hard alloy; of KU4 type – hard alloy.
 
Instruments for welding with central port are intended for thermocompression (capillaries of KT5, KTR21, KTR22, KTR23 types), ultrasonic (capillaries of KU3, KU4 types) and thermosonic (capillary of KTR24 type) welding of short-circuiting wires from 0.020 up to 0.500 mm of diameter when assembling integrated circuits and semiconductor devices.
 
Instruments for welding with side-cut capillary port  
Instruments of this group are the most wide-spread and universal and are intended for use as a part of semi-automatic and automatic installations of thermocompression and ultrasonic welding of wire and ribbon leads as an instrument for ultrasonic welding semiconductor devices and integrated circuits.
Depending on the requirements set for welded joint and used welding equipment, domestic industry has developed and successfully applies a great number of different types of instruments with side-cut capillary port – KT3, KU9, KUT2, KUT3M, KUT4, KUT5, KUT6, KUT7, KUT8, KUT9, KUT10, KUTI, KUT14, KUT18M, KUTC. These instruments are used for welding “overlapped” of wire lead of diameter from 0.020 up to 0.500 mm and ribbon leads (KUT5) with the dimensions from 0.016*0.040 up to 0.050*0.500 mm.
Physically instruments are a cylindrical stem with wedge-shaped working part consisting of square shaped working area and capillary port guiding the welded wire or ribbon into the working area at a certain angle.
High treatment frequency and dimensional accuracy of working parts permits high-speed welding and insures good instruments working capacity.
Material for instrument production: hard alloy.
